Funded until March 2013
Salary Scale NJC Scale SO1 Point 29 £24,646 Plus LW pro rata 14 hours per week (mostly evenings and weekends).
This is an exciting opportunity to develop Volunteering Lewisham sports clubs and organizations, encouraging good practice in volunteer management and increasing the number of sports volunteering roles available in Lewisham.
We are looking for someone with experience of working with and developing sports organisations, as well as being knowledgeable in volunteering and volunteer management.

Overview of Role
The Sports Volunteer Development project is a partnership between Volunteer Centres Lewisham and Greenwich. This advert is for a 14 hour position based in Lewisham, the purpose of which is to increase volunteering within sports and physical activity in and across the borough according to local needs. The Development Worker will be responsible for the development of this new service, the day to day management and the provision of services. The post holder will also contribute to marketing the service, promoting good practice in volunteer management, delivering the training elements of the service and working within the standards of Volunteer Centre Quality Accreditation.
Duties
1. Development
- To identify and encourage sports clubs to engage volunteers within a good practice framework.
- To support sport clubs and organisations to develop exciting, relevant opportunities for volunteers.
- To analyse sports clubs strengths and weaknesses in line with good practice or appropriate accreditation.
- To capacity build club volunteers, signposting them to courses, workshops and seminars.
- Signpost to relevant workshops and seminars and arrange for the Borough to host relevant courses.
- Report on progress.
- Maintain detailed records.
- Work closely with LBL Sport and Leisure, CSPAN, PAP, and other relevant local bodies.
- Work with National Governing Bodies, Local Authority, other volunteer and statutory agencies and stakeholders to promote accreditation.
- Responding to enquires from members of the public about volunteering in sports and/or physical activity.
- To assist with a development plan, which clubs can use to assist them in identifying their capacity building requirements.
- Working closely with other VCL staff to provide information to sports and physical activity organisations.
- Recruiting volunteers on:-
- Volunteer Programme development.
- Good practice in volunteering.
- Writing role descriptions.
- Recruiting volunteers.
- To provide an advice and referral service for sports and/or physical activity organisations recruiting volunteers.
- To ensure the service is accessible and meets the needs of the diverse communities of the borough in which they are employed.
2. Marketing and Publicity
- To represent the service and promote its work both locally and to the wider community.
- To liaise with other agencies to implement both borough wide and localised volunteering initiatives and other high profile events, such as Volunteers’ Week and local fairs.
- To develop and maintain links with other agencies in the voluntary, private and public sectors in order to raise awareness, promote sports volunteering and develop new initiatives.
- To update information on sports volunteering on Volunteer Centre web site.
3. Good Practice Development
- To keep up to date on good practice and disseminate information on good practice to other agencies.
- To Liaise with other staff members on training relating to good practice in volunteer management for sports organisations working with volunteers in the borough.
- To develop and implement policies, procedures and relevant quality assurance systems.
4. Policy Response and Campaigning
- To respond to policy initiatives and disseminate information to sports organisations working with volunteers within the borough.
- To respond to issues raised by sports organisations such as: policy, good practice, training, local strategy with regards to volunteering.
5. Strategic Development of Volunteering
- To contribute to the monitoring and evaluation of the service in order to measure its effectiveness to produce regular reports as required by funders and other stakeholders.
- To contribute to the discussions and planning for the on-going development of the service.
- To develop and maintain links with other strategic agencies.
- To notify the Director of opportunities to expand and develop the service.
6. Other
- To recruit, train and manage any volunteers assisting with the project and Organisation.
- To ensure the maintenance and development of the service administration and IT systems in partnership with the Director.
- To ensure that equal opportunities and other organisational policies are actively implemented in all areas of work.
- To contribute to budget preparation and management.
- To be administratively self-servicing with the help of computerised systems.
- To work with other Volunteer Centre Lewisham staff, Board and volunteers as part of a team.
- To undertake occasional further duties commensurate with the responsibilities of the post, as identified by the Director.
- To comply with the Volunteer Centre Health and Safety and other policies at all times.

| Experience of managing a varied and challenging workload within an office environment |
| Experience of working to targets, outputs, monitoring and evaluation |

| Good IT and typing skills with working knowledge of Microsoft Office systems, email and the internet |

| To be able to undertake a substantial amount of evening/weekend work |
