Guide Dogs are looking for volunteers to help blind and partially sighted people from across London, particularly in Lewisham. As a My Guide volunteer, you will have the opportunity to learn and utilize a new skill of sighted guiding as well as meeting some amazing people. You will be trained on how to be a sighted guide to someone who is blind or partially sighted. (This usually involves 3 evening training sessions.) You will be matched to a blind or partially sighted person according to your interests, location and availability. You will then meet with your match once a week for a couple of hours each time to help them get out and about to where they want to go. This could be to the local supermarket or social club. It will vary according to who you are matched with. It doesn't need to be the same time each week that you meet your partner. It will depend very much upon your availability as we realise that not everyone will be able to make the same time each week. Could you make a positive difference to the life of a child or young person by becoming a volunteer? Family Action needs volunteers to befriend a child or young person in residential or foster care. You will be required to work independently but attend regular information sharing and support sessions. No specific skills or experiences are necessary. - To utilize the equipment and Nuendo (or similar music production) software appropriately to guide and teach patients how to produce and record music/vocals or to experiment with software or musical equipment.
- To encourage patients to engage with the equipment and teach them how to use this independently.
- From time to time, to take the portable equipment to the three other acute mental health wards so that those who have commenced a project whilst on the assessment ward, can continue with their work.
- To facilitate the patients to work on their own or in groups and manage resources effectively including management of risk in relation to equipment and working practices.
- To keep a log of attendance to the sessions.
They are ideally looking for someone with the following skills: - A keen interest in music and a strong knowledge of music production.
- A knowledge of Nuendo software and the use of music production equipment.
- Able to work with patients who would like guidance and support in creating a piece of work or where others may wish to work independently but be provided with equipment.
- A good understanding of mental health issues, be non-judgmental, have empathy and good listening skills, and keep calm under pressure and be able to use initiative within the boundaries of the role.

Lee Oasis is a charity that re-homes donated furniture, household items and baby equipment free to families leaving hostels and disadvantaged people of all ages around Lee, SE12 and surrounding areas. Tasks involve: - Being the first point of contact for the Lee Oasis telephone, liaising with organisations ( health professionals, social workers, homeless charities, hostels, other charities) and furniture donors.
- Organising van team (booking drivers and helpers)
- Answering queries about donated items and requested items
Drawing up schedules for collection and delivery including routes and lists of items - Keeping a log items delivered plus stock in garages
- Liaising and communicating with the donors
- Monitoring emails and forwarding to other sections such as electrical and baby team.
This is a shared role, which you would take on for a period of five to 10 days per month in one-week sections. It would involve 3-6 hours per day and can be managed from home. - They are ideally looking for someone with the following skills:
