Pathways Project
The aim of the Pathways Project is to provide unemployed Lewisham borough residents with real
work prospects through a six month programme of voluntary work experience, skills training
and confidence-building.
Stages of the Project
The first stage of the programme will be for participants to work with the project staff to
agree a personal development plan, which takes into consideration what challenges each
individual faces in finding work, their interests and their experience and education.
The programme will require each person to commit at least 7 hours per week for 6 months to
volunteering; this will give them real work experience, seeing the challenges that can be
faced in the work place, identifying their strengths as well as areas for development. It
will also assist those who have been out of work for a long time, particularly due to health
issues, or with caring/parenting responsibilities, in identifying how much time they can
realistically work for.
During the six months of volunteering each participant will have access to confidence building
workshops and training including; CV writing, Interview skills and writing job applications.
Qualifications such as NVQ's are also available to participants who meet the criteria. Every
week we also run the WORKshop
a weekly space where participants can come to: Search for jobs (we have a copy of all major job
advertising newspapers), use the computers, find out about training, get advice on job
searching/CVs/application forms etc, search for volunteering opportunities and perhaps most
importantly support each other.
Who can join the Project?
The Pathways Project is open to all unemployed Lewisham Borough residents who are looking to
become work ready.
However we are particularly keen to work with:
- Long-term unemployed
- People who have been on incapacity benefit for more than 1 year
- People newly arrived to UK, in particular those with significant skills who need UK experience
- Young people who are not in training, education or employment
- People with low level mental health issues, such as low self-esteem, lack of confidence etc.
