Supported Volunteering Project

The Supported Volunteering Project is designed to improve access to volunteering in Lewisham, especially in the parts of the borough where volunteering involvement is low such as Deptford and NewCross. The project aims to help people overcome the emotional, cultural or physical barriers to volunteering.

As the name suggests the Support will be provided through:
  • outreach to communities who are under represented
  • one to one support to enable people to overcome barriers to volunteering
  • training in the rights and responsibilities of volunteering mentors to provide support for volunteers with additional need
We have Outreach Points in the community where people can come and speak to an advisor about volunteering. We have a wide range of volunteering opportunities with voluntary, non-profit making organisations in and around Lewisham. The best way to find the right voluntary role for you is to speak to an advisor and fill out a registration form highlighting the type of organisations and activities you would like to do.

Take the first step

If you would like to volunteer in your community and are willing to give a little of your time, why don't you talk to us so we can find you an interesting and fulfilling role that suits you. Ring us on 0208 613 7113 for an appointment to speak to an advisor.

Need extra support?

Volunteering is for everyone and has many benefits: you can gain work experience, references and improve your confidence. If you would like extra support our Volunteer Mentors are there to offer additional one to one assistance with your application forms and volunteer placements. For more information about getting involved in volunteering please email Aparna at: brokerage@volunteercentrelewisham.org.uk

Join us!

We are also looking for volunteers to help us at the Access Project to work as Volunteer Advisors at the Outreach Points. Everyone is welcome to apply and particularly those with community language skills. Gain valuable communication skills and work as part of a friendly team. If you would like to help volunteers to volunteer and are available for at least three hours week.

Voluntary Organisations and Community Groups in Lewisham

If you have a group of six or more people interested we can arrange to run an 'Introduction to Volunteering Workshop' for your organisation on another date, possibly at your premises. Please call Aparna or Russell on 0208 613 7113 if you would like to discuss this.

Also if you work with people from hard to reach/ BMER communities and would like to help them participate in volunteering we can hold information days at your organisation. We are also keen to attend community events and have information stalls to promote volunteering to different groups.
